What we keep about you, why, and how to have it removed.

Who we are

The Shattered Key is run by Animint, based in India. "We" on this page means Animint. We decide what is stored and why, so questions and requests about your data come to us: write to codehamsters.ch@gmail.com or ask in the official Discord server.

What we store

Your Discord account. You sign in with Discord. We keep your Discord user id (one captain per account), the display name you start with, and when the Discord account was created, which we use to turn away brand-new accounts made to cheat. Discord also shares your email address with our sign-in provider, which keeps it with your sign-in record; the game itself never reads or stores it, and we don't email you. We never see your Discord password, servers or messages.

Your age band. You tell us the year you were born. We keep only whether you are 13 to 17 or 18 and over, never the year itself. You must be at least 13 to play.

Your ad choice. Whether you allowed personalised ads, and when you chose.

The game. Your captain name, crew, gold, star-iron, bounty, ships and fittings, your crew's shared chart, and a log of game events (segments found and banked, sinkings, heists, rounds). The log is what leaderboards, wanted posters and the round records are built from, and what we check when someone may be cheating.

Technical data. The game server sees your IP address for as long as you are connected, to limit request rates and block abuse. Our server logs may keep it for a short time. We do not build profiles from it.

What is public

Your captain name, crew, ship, bounty, rank and record appear on leaderboards, on your captain page and on your wanted poster, which anyone can share. Crew names and the segments each crew owns are public. A fingerprint (hash) of each round's scatter, and of the final result, is written to a public blockchain and can never be deleted. The fingerprint alone doesn't name anyone, but the result record it seals names the winning crew.

Ads and cookies

Ads pay for the servers. They never buy progress toward the key. Ads are served by Google AdSense, which uses cookies. Google shows personalised ads only if you are 18 or over and you said yes; otherwise the ads it shows are not based on your interests. Where the law requires it (the EEA, the UK and Switzerland), Google's consent message asks first. Change your mind at any time with Ad choices at the bottom of every page.

We also use your browser's storage for sign-in and for remembering your choices on this site. We do not use analytics trackers.

Who else handles it

Supabase (database and sign-in), Discord (sign-in), Google (ads), Xsolla (payments, if you buy a paid part), and our hosting providers for the game server and this website. Each processes only what it needs for that job. When you buy, Xsolla is the seller of record: it takes your payment details on its own page, and we only ever see which part you bought, the order number, the amount and whether it was paid or refunded.

Your choices

You can see what we hold about you, have it corrected, withdraw your consent to personalised ads, or have your captain deleted. To do any of these, write to codehamsters.ch@gmail.com or ask in the official Discord server. We answer within 30 days. Deleting removes your account and personal details. Crew records, the game-event log and the on-chain round records keep anonymised entries, because the hunt's results must stay checkable.

If you are unhappy with how we handled a request, tell us the same way and we will look at it again. You can also complain to the data protection authority where you live.

How long we keep it

We keep your account and game records for as long as you have a captain. When you delete your captain, your Discord id, name, age band and ad choice are removed. Records of purchases (the part, the order number, the amount and whether it was paid or refunded) are kept for as long as tax and accounting rules require. Server logs that hold IP addresses are kept for a short time and then deleted.

Where it is processed

The game server runs in India. The companies named above may process your data in other countries, including the United States and the European Union, under their own terms and safeguards.

Children

The game is not for anyone under 13, and we delete a captain when we learn its player is younger. Players aged 13 to 17 need a parent or guardian's permission to play, are never shown personalised ads, and cannot buy paid parts. A parent or guardian can ask us to remove a child's captain.

Changes

When this page changes we update the date at the top and announce anything important in the official Discord server. See also the terms.
